They tried really hard to scam us. After a long negotiation, we paid £30 more than the price that advertised online. We booked the car with Hertz via booking.com. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!

Do not rent from here! They scammed me for double what I paid online. Claiming it’s necessary insurance I have to have. I went back the very next day and rented from Europcar right next door for the exact same car for my original price of $350 for 7 days. I returned my car from them and they charged me over $100 for less than 24 hours. Do not go here. Total scam

The owner Antonio is a thief!!! He was rude and kicked me out of the building. We rented a car online for $400+. When we got here the fees jumped up and it became $700. We signed the documents but decided within 5 minutes that we didn’t want the car. We never took possession of the vehicle. We asked for a full refund and the owner Antonio charged us $100 “ wasting his time”. Also we ordered a large suv to fit 6 people and luggage. The car they brought us was a small SUV. They lied about the type of vehicle we would receive. Do not book here. Terrible customer service. Junk fees! The place next door got us a vehicle for $186. DO NOT USE THRIFTY CANCUN!!!!

I reserved the car online for two weeks for $400. After they drove me into the office, they raised the price to $1200. After a long time of dealing with the office and manager, I down the price to $890, but in the end, they charged me $30 for a transfer fee. I avoid Thrifty and other companies in the group Hertz, Dollar next time for sure.

Very disappointing to book rental car on expedia for $360/week and then when we showed up they told us the cost was $900 due to mandatory Mexico insurance. They charged us $62/day for the insurance! Crazy. We fought with them for an hour, indicating we rented in Los Cabo’s from a local rental car company and the insurance was included in the estimated price. This is so awful and a terrible way to start a vacation. We felt we had no alternative but to take the car and pay the absurd rate, but after-the-fact realizing it would have been cheaper to take ADO bus to Tulum and use taxis to get around. This scam extends to Hertz and Avis too. If you rent a car in Cancun, go with a local car rental. We thought Thrifty was a reputable, trustworthy option, but not true in Cancun.

This place is a absolute scam. I booked online with Expedia. When I arrived they told me the price is 4 times that much and I can not have that car for that price. They gave me another small little car. Now I'm back in the US and they still trying to book Money from my card. They tried already 3 times. Be aware everyone. Never rent a car here! Biggest scammers I ever encountered.

The car rental situation in Cancun is the biggest scam ever! All of the agencies work together and have a monopoly. We had reserved a car at x rate, our flight was delayed so we arrived an hour later than our booking time and we were told that our car was given to someone else and that they only had cars that were more expensive. After an hour of shopping around and being called from one counter to another and being taken outside for a “better rate” we ended up in thrifty again with a tiny car for over double the price of our initial booking. Surely they could have honored our rate instead of lying and giving us a worse car for over 2x the price. Terrible service, never again!

I will never rent from Thrifty again. Absolute worst. My credit card provides insurance that covers the car rental. However, Thrifty said it is not accepted in Mexico. I knew the employee was lying and I asked to speak with a manager. The employee told the girl next to them that I wanted to talk to a manager, and the girl pretended to be the manager (I speak Spanish and I had just seen that same girl tell another customer that the employee I was speaking with was the manger). I pointed it out to them, and they just told me that if I wanted the car, I needed to get the insurance. I had been waiting for 4 hours so I decided to just take it. However, I tried noting in my contract that stage employee said I had to take the insurance, but they ripped up the contract and said I could only sign it or they wouldn’t accept it. Then, they said they no longer had the SUV I reserved and said that I could wait for the SUV (they didn’t know when or if it would come in) or take a wagon type car they had. I had no choice but to take it. I wanted to get my vacation going. I later tried contacting corporate (Hertz) about it and they ignored all my communications. I highly recommend going elsewhere. It is a very frustrating Way to start a vacation if you have to deal with them.
