★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Die Polizei hält nur nach Touristen ausschau um sie dann zu erpressen. Wir hatten Glück aber haben genug andere gesehen welche angehalten und sogar festgenommen worden sind! Jedem der dort hin möchte muß dies bewußt sein!
 The police only look out for tourists and then blackmail them. We were lucky but saw enough others who were stopped and even arrested! Everyone who wants to go there must be aware of this!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Yo he pasado sin problemas hasta playa Pescadores. Si un policía os intenta chantajear pedir ayuda a un taxista. Ellos están unidos en contra de la policía corrupta.
I have passed without problems until Pescadores beach. If a policeman tries to blackmail you, ask a taxi driver for help. They are united against the corrupt police.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ the police set up road blocks here periodically (as it is the only road to the main strip) and will try to extort tourists for cash (after making up false petty crimes to pull you over) in exchange for their passport/licenses. please google it before driving here so you understand what to do in these situations. very unfortunate that the police are allowed and encouraged by their fellow officers to conduct themselves in this manner.

Dont expect any help from these guys without paying a bribe.
Even worse, the only people i met in Tulum that got robbed, have been robbed by the police.
Hide your cash while walking home, because even if you have done nothing wrong, your money will dissapear after being checked by police.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Please do everything you can to avoid contacting the police. They are corrupted and instead of helping you they will DEMAND money from you. They told me and my friends that we needed to pay them $300 or they would take us to the police station and arrest us. We called them because we got robbed. Instead of doing something about it they wanted to arrest us. Make it make sense (?)
