The resort is beautiful and tries to provide a lot of activities. There is a gym, sports bar, tennis, archery, jet ski rental, parasailing etc. The staff is the greatest asset. Everyone goes out if their way to help you find what you need. The low point is the restaurant dinners you can reserve. While the restaurants themselves look impressive, the food provided is no higher quality then the buffets. There is a lost opportunity to partner with a great quality restaurant and up charge the dinners.

We are spending 10 days in Viva Wyndham Maya resort in Playa del Carmen. It is nice place on Mayan Riviera. Coming directly from Occidental Punta Cana we can’t not to draw comparisons between the two. Room we have here is a basic room with everything needed but with no luxuries included. First two bottles of water in the mini bar are included, everything after that is to be paid. Restaurant is large with multiple islands with large selection of dishes. Everything offered is freshly cooked and tasty. I would say that everybody can find something good to eat. We tried a theme restaurant one evening, International. Dinner was OK, but we were bothered by bunch of kids on other table. Screaming from time to time, running around and ruining our special night in process. At no fault of Wyndham we cut that dinner short and left after only 15 minutes. After that experience we decided to stick with buffet restaurant for all other meals. Beach is nice, palm trees, many beech chairs and huts to protect from the strong sun, unfortunately for VIP club members only. Every evening there are performers, singers, violin player, guitar player to entertain. We appreciated that and listened what they got before retiring to the room. At about $230 per day we got all inclusive at the end of May and found a few complains. The biggest complaint is that restaurant is not air conditioned. On a hot day (every day) you sit and get sweat eating warm meals. Restaurant is also quite noisy, not a Wyndham fault. It’s a guests who make it so. Second thing is that we had 3-4 days of rain and bad weather courtesy of hurricane Agatha. We found that many spots on the resort grounds are slippery to the point that I almost fell several times. Breaking bone 11000 km from home is last thing I needed so I was very slow and careful but still … Due to rain we spent too many hours in the room so had a chance to find out that there are only about 20 TV channels available. Only one was in English language, everything else is dubbed in Spanish. Picture quality left a lot to be desired for. So TV gets thumbs down. Conclusion is that this Wyndham is more like 3 - 3.5 star place, not really a 4 star. Nature, beach, food make up for where it lacks and should get just average ratings.

Got the daypass, 2 people for 2400 pesos, it's worth every peso. The buffet was excellent, and they have people walking around the pool with sliced fruit like a cocktail party. Drink lines werent long, pools were warm. Great time.

Positive: What I like was it had good security when you went in you had to go through a security gate and there was private security on motorbikes patrolling and people walking day and night there so everyone seemed safe. Other than below staff was nice. Negative: Security guard at gate wanted my driver's license before entering. Front desk clerk took too much time in registering others and allowed one person to cut in front of us. Only main buffet was available to eat. No free mask for customers if one was needed

I like this location! Didn't want to stay at resort all the time this time.so choose here.felt very safe inside gated community. Not to far from downtown also nice shopping and coffee places across from. Walked to downtown on way to get steps in then took cab back.like 100 pesos.8 us.nice walk in the morning time... Maya ruin on the way.. Nice place to stop over!! I will stay here or around here if i want to go out not just relax in the resort. Food are ok. Will get bored of buffet after few days.. But I'm not so interested of huge meal and regular intermittent fasting person.Mexican restaurant was my favorite.you could have healthy meal depending on how you choose. No coffee maker in the room was my huge disappointment. Loved adult pool side with little extra fees. Quiet and huge room. It was nice with the price. We stayed high end resort usually but over eating and drinking...this was very different experience. Very active and energized fun trip.

Food was sub par. The drinking water was not the best. Although the rooms were nice and the maids did an amazing job. Beach was great except for the size. Bar tender at adult pool was amazing and made the best drinks. All in all would have given a 3 star, but the staff in the shop were always super rude whenever interacted with.

Good hotel, Nice rooms, got a rainy week so weather didn't helped too much. Drinks are ok, and food for lunch and dinner at main restaurant are pretty much alike every meal. So try to get a reservation at a restaurant as soon as you can. Went with my little son, was alright. I recommend it.

Overall it was a good vacation and the resort was nice. One thing I would like to comment on is that I do understand that lots of resorts do you have a dress code to go into a restaurants, buffets, etc. But the problem is you need to teach your staff how to address it properly and politely to make us aware because coming up to me and my little sister and just giving me a dirty look and pointing out my outfit up and down then kicking me out is not the way to do it. I understand you must have to deal with it often but if that’s the case make some signs visible to let guest know. (Ones similar to no shirt no service signs.) One of these days it is going to get to the wrong person and you’re going to get a review worse than this.
