Its just a giant tourist trap. The ruins themselves are a small hill with no indication of where or what they are. The place is just full of overpriced shops of people who will try to trick you. Don't bother with these ruins, or the whole island as far as I'm concerned. Didn't help that we were literally the only tourist there at noon and were swarmed by the vendors.

A small community and a nice temple of the Maya.

The citizens of El Cedrel are extremely friendly and ready to share about their Mayan heritage. We learned so much from speaking to them. The Mayan temple is awe inspiring and the church built aside it speaks of harmony between beliefs. The small market here is full of the perfect gifts to go home with you.

While in Cozumel I found myself in the Cedral area looking at some old Ruins in a little local village. It does cost a few bucks to enter the area at a gated area but it’s worth it to support the area. There is a touristy feel to it but you can get some great deals on some items if you haggle hard enough. Clothes Souvenirs Cigars Alcohol I don’t recommend however to buy the liquor there they actually charge twice as much as you can buy them for at the duty free station back at port. The old church is amazing as well as the old world feel this area has.

Wear mosquito repellent!!! Visited during the coronavirus pandemic so technically the place wasn't open. Since the Mayan ruin sits in the middle of a residential neighborhood, it can still be visited. Because of the pandemic, the church is closed and the small museum that is usually set up was taken down. That also means no tour guides were available. However, a local shop keeper was very quick to run over and offer mosquito repellent, give us a history lesson, point out numerous things about the church and ruin and take our photos. For this we were grateful so afterwards we headed over to his shop and purchased some souvenirs. Since the Mayan ruin is really one tiny building I recommend going to San Gervasio instead but if you have a lot of time on the island, stop by and visit.

I am genuinely astonished that this place has more than 3 stars - I hate to think how little of the world (or just Mexico) those people leaving 4 and 5 Star reviews have actually seen. This place is a shambles - a dilapidated Mexican village with zero charm that is nothing more than a tourist trap (that clearly seems to be working). It is significantly less charming than the thousands of other small villages found across Yucatan and the whole of Mexico. Avoid at all costs. The ‘Mayan ruins’ look as though they are doubling as someone’s garden shed - and the remainder of the village is soulless souvenir shops, there are hawkers everywhere - they even demand you buy coconuts in exchange for their ‘free’ parking. It may have only been $2USD - but even at that price its daylight robbery.

Beautiful place to have a short walk. The small town is lovely, and the open air church is interesting. There is only one minor Mayan structure, but it’s still worth the visit. However, there were these two very annoying old Mexican ladies who tried everything to guide me to theirs and sell whatever they had on offer (I have not met any Mexican people as unpleasant as these two before!). When I arrived by car, they tried a lot to have me park close to theirs by constantly waving with small towels (of course, they do it for a “tip” - totally unnecessary at this public place and there is enough space to park your car anywhere), later they were hustling the entire time and wanted me to buy whatever they were selling. If it was for the two, I would definitely not come again! Otherwise, this is a nice place to visit.

This was my favorite place. The history, hospitality. We got a personal tour and history lesson while visiting. I must say it was such a beautiful place to visit. Almost like you walked onto a movie set. I would have loved to stay longer, next time!
