These ruins are interesting and seem to be the hub of the island at one point. The guides here are far less "pushy" than some at other sites and worth their retainer. Be respectful of the ruins and consider hiring a guide to help you understand the history.

This was one of the coolest things we did on the island! Admission was $10/person, but get a tour guide, it adds $20, but is absolutely worth it!! Request Fanny Gonzalez, she loves her Mayan ancestors and showing visitors through the site. We spent three hours here and walked the entire site. It was awesome learning about what happened here and why. There are vendors up front so expect to be accosted by those selling their wares. This site is shaded but it is very humid so bring water and bug spray. We rented a scooter in town and it was an easy drive out there.

Beautiful place! I'd highly recommend stopping by the guides table and investing in the "tour". We had Jose and he was fantastic. He really brought the site to life with his intimate knowledge of the place and insights into Mayan culture. Pro tip: BRING BUG SPRAY. I have never seen so many mosquitoes in my life.

I am a tourist @ heart. This was my first time on a cruise and this was the excursion I selected. We were told at the beginning that this was not the big ruins. Everyone sighed. However the guide and the rich history of the ruins made this excursion a great one.

Very very interesting. I was in Cozumel on a cruise and really was expecting just to lay on the sun and bask But a show excursion took us here. Learned a lot about the Mayan people and culture. By the tour guides admission, the signage dates back to the 1990s and a lot of new knowledge has risen since then. But seeing ruins from a millennium ago, generally still in excellent shape ... I love the culture.

I have been to several other of the big Mayan ruins, so I was not too sure what to expect here. Was I pleseantly surprised with this site. The importance to the Mayan beliefs of fertility and being born are clear here. In fact life and birth are so sacred here that it was never a site of human sacrifices as many of the other Mayan sites were. I recommend paying the $20 for your group to get a guided tour and then exploring on your own.

What a cool spot! You do have to pay twice to get in, but it’s not much, and the money goes towards maintaining the place. We didn’t get a guide as we wanted to go our own pace, but they are there if you’d like them. The ruins have information plaques so you can read about the history of them. The pathways are nicely maintained and there is so much wildlife around. Tons of different flowers blooming, and so many iguanas and lizards! We even saw bright blue butterflies flying around. There are so many ruins and you walk through parts of the forest/jungle to get to them. It was a hot day, but really nice in the shade of the trees. The shops are pretty nice too, with reasonable prices. Shoutout to Enrique, one of the shop owners, who gave me a cool pamphlet about the Mayan zodiacs and showed me which was mine (it was my birthday that day as well).

Fantastic and interesting place. Highly recommend you visit and do get a guide. Well worth the $ 20 for a guide. Go in the morning when it's not hot nor humid. Take some bug spray for your clothes and bring water. You will pay twice to enter , but it still adds up to being only ten USA dollars total.
