★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Scam!! Be careful when you rent car , it may intentionally charge unreasonable fee before you return car for flight!!
I rent a car in cancun Mexico on Mar 21, about 11 o'clock.
That's is an old style car(A car) without electric lock. I didnn't notice the door lock on drive side couldn't be locked because it looked well (I didn't try to turn off the car and try to lock).
When I drove about 1.5 hour to Playa Del Carmen without rest on the way, I picked A car in Macdonald for my lunch, I found the lock can't be plugged in. I contacted Budget, a man asked me to download Whatsapp.
I downloaded it and keeped contacting, telling them the truth. They said they would send some guys to check and replace another car( B car) to me. They didn't come until that night. After the lady (who contact customer in Cancun airport, I don't remember her name, but her Ensglish is better than other men) and two or three men reached A car. After checking A car, the lady told me it may happen because they gave me wrong car key, it can be used to turn on the same style car, and felt sorry for that. Then they give me B car and drove A car back without doubting the lock was destroyed by anyone.
When I returned B car on Mar 28 before departure. The other lady on clerk told me because I or somebody destroyed the lock of A car, I need to compensate 2320 Mexico dollars. I was angry but I still pay it because I am urgent for airplane and they didin't take me to airport if I didn't pay.
It's so ergent that I forgot to ask for the repairment receipt. After coming back to U.S. and claimed for insurance, I was told the claim was denied because of the lack of receipt. I asked the store in Cancun to give me the receipt via whatsapp but got no answer.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The customer service was great in terms of after signing the papers. When I went to sign the papers in the car rental booth in the airport, the guy was very scammy telling us insurance is basically a MUST even though my credit card covers for rental cars. So, if you reject the their insurance, it’s a $2500 deposit and a $9/day tracking fee. Pretty sure they did not actually put a tracking device.
Booth guy told us $270 usd would be the max we pay. Which is in my contract. When I arrive back with the car, I got an estimate of 266.88 USD. That’s looks great because it’s less than the max. I get back to the states and I’m charged $300 usd instead. I know it’s not a big difference but they scam you by putting a high peso to usd conversion in their system thinking you are getting a great deal.
They basically printed in my receipt that 22.92 pesos = $1 usd during the time of my rental. Which is false. Pesos was between 20.00 and 20.70 to 1 USD during the week I was there to this day. They have not updated their peso conversion which benefits them in the end. Now I have to deal with the bank because my receipt and contract says ~$266.88 and $270 respectively in USD.

Budget At AirPort Cancun rented me a car with a low battery car keys. After a couple of days when the keys stopped working there were no assistence or support from budget. I was left for myself in the middle of nowhere for several hours and when contacted, budget just refused to help us and did not try to reached us after the situation. I need to change the battery at my cost and solve this problem on my Own. When I returned the car Mr Serna,I explain the situation and he did apologise and gave me his word of honor that the contract was finished and any charge wouldn’t be added to my account. Unfortunatly he can not gave any papper that prove all he said because the manager wasn’t at the store at the time, but he promised would send an e-mail the day after with all these informations. The day after I returned the car they took 500€ from my bank account with no permission and now I Have not recived any papper about the contract and they dont answer my WhatsApp texts or even answer the 24 hours phone for several days.

THEY ARE LIARS, DECEIVERS AND THIEVES
They gave me a car key without battery and left me completly abandoned with no assistance. They hung up the phone for several times in my face and after some attemps of calling back they blocked my number. I managed to change the battery of the car key in Mahahual after going by foot more than 7 stores. They kept the old battery and the new one and did not refund me the purchase price of the new one.
After changed the battery the key didn't work a 100% so I returned the car sooner than supposed to and after this they charged me the key's and said that I damaged the key.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We rented a car from this company in March. They did not respect the conditions which were given by the agreement with rentalcars (wanted to charge me 4 times higher deposit). Then I had strange behavior on my credit card account (firstly they refund my deposit and then charged me it again).
Finally...We had a very little accident with a truck tire, so they charged me the deposit and promised to send me an invoice for my insurance company, since that time I can not contact them (I tried all possible ways) and I did not receive anything..

Went to the airport booth, the rep was gone. When he came back, he said my reservation and the other person's was "not in the system" even though I had a printed confirmation.
We finally got to the rental car pickup. The line was out the door. There were only 2 people on staff.
You will sign forms in Spanish, and they will tell you there is no option in English.
I was charged extra for a monitoring system (they said it was mandatory if I declined their insurance). Put a $2k hold on my account. Also charged extra for an additional driver. When I came home and checked my credit card, I had been charged an additional $50 over the final price I signed for.
Their pretend conversion rates are not accurate. Stay away.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Rented from Budget in Cancun as was worried after reading stories about local companies. Paid extra to be with international brand and did not disappoint. Pick up to Drop Off - no issues, polite staff, decent new car (sub 10k miles KIA). Personally- would recommend. And to some of the comments a piece of advice: 1. Always check and record any damage (not on your phone but on contract), 2. Some roads in Mexico are horrible, take zero excess policy (even externally) for piece of mind 3. “You break, you cry, you pay”. It is business, nothing personal. So do not moan about smth you have caused yourself.
Overall, great experience- quick, professional and genuine. Thanks.

Please stay away from this company.
I made a NO FEE reservation a few weeks back and today they sent an email that I needed to pay the full amount if I wanted to keep the car and reservation.
When I called I told the agent I had some questions and without letting me talk she just kept asking for my credit card number, until I abruptly interrupted her.
She told me once I paid the $600 + dollars over the phone there would be a fee of $800 dollars as deposit, I said “no, excuse me.” this is my fourth rental in Mexico and I’ve never had to leave so much money.
She then told that it must of not been in Mexico, because is a standard $800 dollars everywhere, I explained that I rented with Avis in September and last month and they charged me between $80 and $40 dollar deposit.
She then proceeded to try to discredit my information, what a rude person, I told her I had receipts to prove it and she just proceeded to tell me that she could lower the deposit amount. No thank you, I’m out!
Please be aware, what they do is hold a large amount and probably say the car is damaged when you drop it off.
I rather pay a little extra with Avis than to deal with this garbage service.
If Avis is not your thing try Marios Friend’s, is local and has super positive reviews.
