If you ever have the opportunity to visit Holbox Island, make sure to book a tour with Gama Extreme Tours. My husband and I did two tours with this company. Cesar, the manager there took excellent care of us. Our first tour was a bioluminescent tour. It was such a cool experience. The second tour we did was a private sunrise tour. We went to Isla de la Pasion, Isla Pajaros, Punta Cocos, and Yalahau. We had door to door pick-up service from our hotel to our destination. Our captain wore a face mask the entire time and made sure to provide lifejackets to us in our size. My husband was initially nervous about getting seasick because he had not been on a boat before, but Cesar suggested that we get Dramamine before hand, which was really helpful. We felt 100% safe in their care. The best part of the tour for me was going fishing for the first time and swimming in the lagoon. Captain Tomas was so nice and very knowledgeable.

I enjoyed the 3 island tour because it’s a beautiful area, but I don’t think the guide was that knowledgable. I think he was saying what he thought the tourists wanted to hear “you’re so lucky, we never see that bird!” (this was an osprey on its nest, so I think untrue). We also set off almost 30 mins late as we kept waiting to pick up more people.

Our group filled up two full boats and we had a great time with our guide Dioser. He was extremely helpful and informative on any questions we asked. We had a few GoPros and Dioser was more than happy to record our experience for us, while we swam up to the Whale Shark. The experience was amazing and I would definitely recommend it to anyone considering this opportunity.

Do not go here. They just go onto the water when they know it is to windy.. we went voor 2.5 hours on bumpy water. Back is hurting and then we went back because we couldn't go further. We didn't get a refund not even partly. Worst experience ever. Felipe Burgoss sold it to us on the beach.

Absolutely zero precautions taken. The captain was extremely careless. No covid measures- no face masks, no hand sanitizer, etc. The worst part was he drove like a complete maniac and i have severe back pain and soreness (I am a young person, I cant imagine how the older couple on the boat must feel today). We were strongly jostled around the boat for 1.5 hours while he went full speed. It wasnt due to water conditions, the water and wind were actually very calm. No life jackets, they told us 5 minutes before reaching the island we would put them on so they wouldn't get in trouble. I have bruises on my back and am in so much pain today. I am surprised no one fell from the boat. I have done many tours and have never been on a boat with such an irresponsible captain, nor have I ever felt compelled to write such a strong review. Their tour license should be revoked. They lied about the chances of seeing a whale shark. We saw none. Basically we were on the boat from 7-1pm without ever getting in the water, simply "searching". Some of us actually kept dozing off bc it was quite boring (once we arrived at the whale site) and the guide wasnt updating us with info. They also advertise seeing turtles and mantarays during snorkeling, but in reality we only saw some fish. Lunch, even though i reminded them multiple times prior to getting on the boat that there were 2 vegetarians, they forgot. We got a very tiny portion of guac. The others got very small portions of ceviche. The flamingos they advertise were also a joke. We literally saw 1 from very far away. The tour ended around 330pm. It was a very long, frustrating expensive day (120 USD) with nothing to show for it. I dont recommend doing the whale shark tours from Holbox. Do it from Cancun as the whale shark site is anyway closer to Isla Mujeres. Cancun does a lot more tours and i am sure the companies are more professional. In Holbox, they have many tour stands with agents, but there is zero transparency on who your tour will be with. I was told one company, but the day of the tour it ended up being this one. The agents are smart, all use similar cards so you assume it's the same company. They don't list the company names on the card, making it very hard for you to research whether or not its a good company.

The whale shark tour should have been cancelled - it was way too windy and super high waves. After a bumpy ride of 2.5hrs we turned around. I did not feel safe. Very bad experience. I think they go out there no matter what - and to get a partial refund it takes some persistent negotiation.

I did the night bioluminiscence kayak tour with them and was very disappointed. First they told me that we go into the Reserve where there are no lights to better see the phenomena, and that they pay taxes for the entrence and preservation of the reserve. We did not end up going all the way to the reserve, we stopped half way where there were still lights. In general they oversold the tour. I explicitly asked if the bioluminiscencia phenomena is the same from the kayak or their tour on land, and I asked them if it is always possible to see it clearly. They assured me that the kayak option is way better since you see it up close and that it is always very visible. This was not true, I had barely managed to see any of it, it was only possible to see sporadic bioiluminescence sparks when I went with my hand through the water on the darker side of the kayak. We also did not wait for the moon rise in the kayak as promised. They told me I will have a place to change after the ride and swim, which was false, so I was completely wet in the middle of the night and had to ask one of the nearby restaurants if I could change. The guide was caring and I felt safe, so at least that's important. But I would definitely have preferred to do smth else instead of this tour with them. It's definitely not worth the money.

The best thing we did in Mexico was go to Isla Holbox and the second best was take a sunset mangrove tour with these guys! Our skilled guide Abraham went above and beyond to show us a place he really loved. Excellent communication and organization. We saw a lot of native birds and crocodiles! We felt safe the entire time and just had a fantastic experience. Abraham captured an extra special moment for us as well!
