Hotel Casa Bárbara Holbox - 77310 Holbox

There is no reception and we aited 45 minutes for somebody to come do the check in. There is no wifi, very few light in the room. It took 3 days to fix the hot water and the water also goes away sometimes. Everything is half abandoned and dirty like the pool. You have to take care of the cleaning and take the garbage out as there is no housekeeping. Doors are in poor conditions and will lock you up sometimes in the bathroom... Mediocre place overall...

Beautiful little hotel for the price and such a great location! There were just so many mosquitoes in our room though, a mosquito net over the bed would make it 5 stars!

How beautiful! They make our stay in Holbox super relaxing. The team is fully dedicated to make you feel welcome, they are so warm and friendly. The place is super clean and has a tropical style.

Lovely experience. Hotel is beautiful and very cosy. Hansel at reception gave us an excellent welcome and great service throughout out holiday there. Room very spacious, comfy beds, clean and bathroom also very clean. Great location, 8 minutes walk to the ferry and 10mins walk to the beach. Few steps from the centre, full of restaurants and cafes around and also supermarkets. Outside the rooms there are hammocks, tables and chairs to sit and relax in the nature and there is also a swimming pool. Definitely recommend it and if I go back to Holbox, will go back there.

That's basically a backpackers hotel. When we arrived in the room, we had no towel and no sheet. And the swimming pool is not swimmable as it's 2 meters away from a huge hotel construction site. It is no longer kept clean btw. Not recommended at all.

The hotel have big potential but is very old and a little messy the swimming pool is very beautiful but isn’t very clean, the vegetation is great and the atmosphere could be great but just behind the swimming pool they are building an other piece of the hotel where the workers sleep in, so when in the night(after 11pm) I would like to relax or even in the morning (before 9 am)I couldn’t cause I didn’t feel comfortable. The prices in the whole island are higher than the average Yucatán and the standard are a little less than I expected but The hotel is clean and the position is also good close to the central and in the middle between the best two beaches punta cocos and punta mosquitos!

Overall not great and I don’t recommend it - the least favorite of the 3 places I stayed while in Holbox. Needs better upkeep and maintenance. A few pros, more cons. Pros: 1. Staff was nice and pleasant 2. Location is very good, close to town and beach 3. AC and internet worked pretty well 4. Nice cat who runs the place (photo) Cons: 1. The room was dank and smelled of mildew/mold. I told reception as soon as I checked in and they told me I was wrong. Their denial didn’t make it better. See attached photos of accumulated mold in the bathroom (yuck). I’m sensitive to smell, so this was a major negative for me. 2. The mosquitos were persistent. I smote a batch of them when I arrived and they always returned in numbers. After my second complaint, the staff gave me plug-in repellents, but they didn’t do much. Led to lots of bites and buzzzzy sleep. They’ll tell you it’s an inevitable product of the environment, but that’s just not true - I didn’t have this problem in either of the other places I stayed in Holbox. 3. The toilet flusher didn’t work when I arrived. The staff fixed it after I complained. Then it broke again 2 days later.
