★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The bathroom toilet was always broken when we were there. The toilet was jerryrigged with some rubber so it would flush but it broke during our stay. The shower never stopped dripping large amounta of water all night, not very eco friendly. The staff would disappear for 30 minutes so they are unreachable and offer no explanation when they came back. Most of the reviews are for their private rooms. The dorm room experience is terrible. They shut off the aircon at 6 am and whne asked just shrugged their shoulders so most people had to get up at 6am as it got too hot. I didn't see one cleaner go through the hostel room bathrooms the 3 days I was there. Please avoid and do not stay.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The shared room is very basic, but clean. Many power outlets. The location is amazing (two blocks from the beach). The hostel people were very helpful - they have a map with suggestions of places to go, they can answer a lot of questions, and they are very nice. I haven't seen the private rooms, but I suppose they are as basic, clean and nice. Good value for money.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Booking.com gets you better price than at the premise. Double room is really small and (otherwise super fast) wifi barely has signal inside the room on the second floor (both phones and laptops).
Otherwise ok place, bathroom was good (hot water and good pressure). Mahahual is small enough that practically every place is close to the beach.
