We booked a private archeological tour to xihuacan because we wanted to see the pyramid, ceremonial site and the museum and the church and wanted someone who spoke English. The guide, ulises of ketavi tours spoke fairly good English. However, he could not or did not want to translate all the descriptions in the museum, which were only in Spanish. The museum is very nice, but we could have gotten more out of it if he had translated all of the information. He stated to one member of our party that he was “tired”. After the museum, we thought we would see the ceremonial site and the pyramid. However, ulises discouraged us from looking at them (they were within a few hundred feet of the museum), saying they were “fake”. He kept driving and went right past them even though we asked to see them. That was one of our main purposes of the trip, so we were disappointed. There was one other tour of a few people who were looking at these sites with their guide explaining. . On the way to the museum we were taken by a “tile” place which had things for sale there. We did not ask to go there and finally had to ask ulises if we could leave. It was ok to see but we Wanted to leave after two minutes , even though we stayed much longer and waited while he was on his cell phone. We considered it a waste of our time, Especially when we realized it took time away from what we did want to see. We were driven by the church, which we had wanted to see, but were not taken in to see the church. Ulises took us to a restaurant of his choice on the beach. We were the ONLY customers the entire time we were there. The food was mediocre at best and very expensive for this area. When the bill came several items were overcharged. When I mentioned to the waitress that it was more than stated on the menu, the waitress said “the fish” was more expensive because it was bigger. The menu did not state different prices for different sizes, there was only one price listed for the fish. Other items on the bill were also overcharged. She did not Change the bill to be accurate. At this point we just wanted to get back home, it was getting very hot. All in all, ulises does know quite a bit about the area, he is an official guide. However, neither his web site nor his brochure mention any prices and I don’t think we got a “personalized” tour since he was the one who decided where we went and the timing. The tour would not have been much different than just hiring a taxi with a good English speaking driver who knows the area and and certainly would have cost much less. Ulises. Wanted to come to where we were staying to discuss the tour. Once here he said that we could put it on a credit card. The day he picked us up, he “forgot” the machine for the credit card. We paid 4200 pesos cash for the 3 of us for the tour. One of our group was leaving for the airport 2 days later. Ulises said he would take him “for almost free”. Ulises would not give him a price. He asked ulises three times , which ulises finally answered .....450 pesos. Obviously, We called another taxi driver who was prompt, very nice , with a clean car and charged 200 pesos. My friend paid 300 pesos and still came out way ahead of ulises price (which he said was “almost free”.) I did call ulises the day after our tour to ask if I could come by his office and put the 4200 pesos on my credit card since I needed the cash. Ulises said he was busy and would call me back. He never did. Even though ulises was personable , has knowledge of the area, and fairly good English, a nice car, I cannot recommend him. pesos.
