★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice side but only if it’s on your way and you have your own transport. You need to pay 3 times to get to the ruinas. Around 180peso just on the beginning of the road, then you need to drive 60km to the ruinas and then pay 85peso to enter the side. 1/3 of the site is close right now so you can not do the long route. The rest you can easily see in 3h with climbing to each pyramid. We got there from Xpujil with shared bus for 500 peso per person.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A bit far and a long drive but it's well worth it. Beautiful and well restored archeological site, plenty of wildlife, highly recommended to drive early. We got in around 6pm and even saw a few deers on the road. Cool cool cool!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A great experience. This site is not as commercial as the others. Great to walk from ruin to ruin and experience the whole history. Also the surrounding area is beautiful. I actually got somewhat lost in the jungle, so careful where you go. Worth a day visit. Peace and serene. Also not too crowded.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing experience. We got a guide but don’t know that it is was really necessary if you have a car as there are signs etc once you’re there. Lots of the ruins are shut off at the moment but still plenty to check out. Need a full day including travelling. Hearing howler monkeys atop a Mayan ruin was insane!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ After a long and slow drive thru the jungle on a very fine road (no tope, no potholes) you arrive at the bio réserva of Calakmul.
The reserve has a lot to see, but patience is the key. It’s good to ask guides or the forest guards about animals whereabouts if you want to see them.
Some of the members will even offer you to join them for observation ! If you have this chance don’t miss it as you might encounter tapir, toucans and many more ! The Jaguar is becoming extremely rare unfortunately !
Raw nature all around : there is no restaurant or snacks anywhere around, be prepared !

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really awesome place, we went with a tour from Xpujil. You could really easily drive to the jungle on your own since the road is very good. But taking a tour/guide can really enhance the experience because they can take you also inside the jungle to see some animals like crocodiles, monkeys, birds, spiders,... Doing this on your own could be a bit hard and dangerous. But if you are just for the ruins it can be easily done on your own.
