If you rent directly from the shop in Playa Del Carmen and deal with Luis, you will have a 5 star experience. The negative reviews seem to be from people who rent through a third party appt such as Kayak etc. Luis was very clear with us about everything and we had a trouble free experience. He was able to give us a better price than anyone else.

Worry-free and smooth experience beginning to the end. The car arrived as scheduled and was in great working condition with zero mechanical issues. Could not have asked for a better experience especially after reading so many horror stories of others' experiences. Honest business that upheld their online quoted rate with NO hidden fees. Absolutely the worst car rental agency I’ve used. Complete scam, they force you to purchase their insurance (you are not allowed to use your own insurance or credit card’s coverage), so what you’re actually paying is much much more than the quoted rental amount. Also, they gave us a car with over 100,000 miles on it, that looked like it had just been in an accident. We chose this company because the “quoted” rate for this company was lower than other well known brand name agencies, but it turned out to be much costlier to rent a very old broken down car from a very shady company. Don’t make the same mistake we did, choose a reliable company and go for the higher rate as they are less likely to have “add on” charges and extras during your rental.

Luis managed to get us a car on short notice. His English is excellent and he is straight up with all the necessary information you need. The car had a few dings but it got us around the Yucatan with no problems. The price was fair. Best to rent directly from Luis at Adocar in Playa del Carmen rather than go through third parties.

I live in Playa and have rented cars from several places (including the American brands everyone is familiar with). This is the only place I rent from. Luis is the man and they don’t jack you around. The price is always the price, you don’t come in and it’s somehow magically doubled when you get done (like every other place). He even upgraded me for free when the car I reserved wasn’t ready. There isn’t a single other car rental spot in Mexico that will do that!

We worked with Luis and rented vehicles from Ado twice. Once to visit Belize, Ado provided proper documentation to allow us to drive into Belize customs. The second time we rented a vehicle to drive to Merida. We provide the most reasonable deal, we have a family of 8 so bigger rentals can be expensive. Luis was flexible with price and he ordered the vehicle size we needed from Cancun to Playa del Carmen and delivered it within a couple hours. The deposit was less than other rental companies. The insurance was reasonable. I highly recommend. Ado is our go to place for car rentals.

ADOCar has been a great rental. Easy booking, pickup and return. Always helping answering any questions. A great example of their service was during the return. We found a small damage to the back light. The staff checked and found that it had been reported earlier but missed when I picked it up. No charges. A great example of honesty and great service.

We had a terrible experience here. When we came to pickup the car (20 minutes early) with our booking confirmation and all the necessary documents they said there wasn't a car available for us. They hadn't called or emailed us about this so there we were standing with our luggage and no car to travel further. This also happened to 2 other couples on the same day. They told the other couples there wasn't a car because they were too late for the pickup (1 couple was there 5 minutes late). When i called with the head office they told me they couldn't help me also because they didn't have any cars. But 1 couple from Israel just 5 minutes before us got a car immediately. We think they paid a very high price. So a very strange and disappointing experience overall. You can take your chances with this rental company but I wouldn't recommend it.
