★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Chichen Itza is a must see if visiting the Yucatan peninsula. The best way to see it is by renting a car and getting there right at 8am. Almost noone is there at that time. The big tours don't arrive until about 9:30. We just used online videos to learn about the different ruin highlights.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Venus platform is a beautifully restored and preserved small pyramidal platform adorned with snakes heads guarding each of its four stairways. It can be located between the great ballcourt and the Castillo pramid. Beautiful and powerful building.
