Pretty bad experience at this cave that has nothing to do with the cave itself, just the people operating it. The bats go out at sundown and there are millions of them so they take a long time to get out. The main issue is that the number of people is limited. We got there an hour before sun down, signed up on the list, paid our fees and waited. After we arrived, more and more groups arrived. Somehow we got demoted to the second group and people that arrived after us, jumped us in the list. I guess it shows how far a good tip gets you (or bribe?). The first group gets 15min from when the bats start exiting and then the second group gets in. They overstayed and by the time we got there, it was almost pitch black and we couldn't see anything or take pictures... Really sad

The phenomenon is super interesting to see. Would totally recommend doing it if you are in the area. They make you pay for a "guide" at the beginning of the path to the cave if you don't already have one. Which is pretty unnecessary, but I get that people are just trying to make a few bucks. Anyway it was worth it, I was completely amazed.

Absolutely amazing. So glad we made it to see the bats after spending the day at the Calakmul ruins. Don’t miss it! Make it by 5:00 so you don’t miss the show. There’s usually a police car at the entrance to the turn off, so when you see them park the car and walk the kilometer to the cave!

Lots and lots bats. Very impressive. Everyday at sunset. We arrived at 5pm and were guided up to bats at about 5.45. they started coming out around 6, more and more, until a endless flood at 6.30. Rather random to whether you need to pay or not but we ended up giving $75 per person to our "guide". He did tell us lots of information. There are some official controls on the numbers of people up there. 15 at a time but there were only about 15 were there to see it.

Guides did a great job with all the individual couples that showed up. Was 75 pesos a person do not wear bug spray. It’s not a far walk but guides give you good information about the bats and area .
